The Department has a distinguished record in teaching and research. A number of faculty members have been recipients of relevant awards. In addition to outstanding academic/teaching staff members, we provide students with solid and innovative curriculum. With implementation of new four-year curriculum, consolidation of mathematics and general education courses across the University, the Department is going to offer more useful courses and outside classroom learning opportunities, such as internship and exchange programme. It will be a challenge as well as an opportunity for the Department.

We are proud to be one of the most active mathematical and statistical research Departments in Hong Kong. The department has strong research and teaching activities in the areas related to applied and computational mathematics and statistics, including biostatistics, graph theory, high-dimensional statistical analysis, imaging sciences, data analytic and AI (Artificial Intelligence), numerical analysis, scientific computing and statistics. These are highly demanded by the modern technology around us in the world. Funding for research comes from both government and industry. The Department hosts various professional conferences, lectures, colloquia and seminars with distinguished speakers from all over the world. These activities have greatly enhanced our students’ learning experience at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). We are also pleased to have advanced computing facilities, as well as dedicated technical and administrative staff to support our academic programmes and research.
