Q: What are the admissions requirements?
A: All admitted students must have some quantitative background including linear algebra, calculus, statistics and probability.
Q: How are students selected for this program?
A: A committee of faculty from the HKBU Mathematics Department and KENT Business assess applicant backgrounds and skills for program admission. Candidates will be evaluated based on the following:
- GPA at the undergraduate and, if available, graduate level
- IELTS score (For international students)
- TOEFL score (internet-based test) (For international students)
- Certificate(s)/transcript(s) for all previously earned degrees
- Confidential recommendation forms
- Statement of goals and objectives
The review committee will review all of the program applications.
Q: Can the confidential recommendation forms be sent to you electronically?
A: No. The referees must submit the forms in hardcopy.
Q: Is work experience required?
A: No, but work experience is helpful.
Q: Do you require an undergraduate degree in finance or business?
A: Training in economics and finance is helpful but not required. The common requirement for all students in the program is that they enter it with a high level of intellectual curiosity and a strong interest in mathematical finance and financial markets.
Q: Do you recommend preparatory math and business classes?
A: Probability, Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations and Statistics are useful. Additional Math course work is up to the applicant.
Q: What is the minimum IELTS score required?
A: A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall or equivalent score of approved substitute is required.
Q: What is the minimum TOEFL score required?
A: A minimum TOEFL (internet-based) score of 90 or equivalent score of approved substitute is required.
Q: Am I eligible to apply if I have an MBA degree?
A: Yes.
Q: Do you accept applications after the posted due date?
A: Yes. Applications received after the deadline will be reviewed by the Review Committee. Offers of acceptance will be extended to qualified students on a space available basis.

Applications to the program are administered through the Department of Mathematics, Hong Kong Baptist University.

A: The application fee to HKBU is HK$450 (local students) or HK$450 (non-local students).
Q: What is the application deadline?
A: 5 Jun 2024 (non-local) and 24 Jul 2024 (local)
We strongly recommend that all application materials be submitted as soon as possible. Completed applications will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.

A: The Academic Registry -- TPg Studies Section of Hong Kong Baptist University will send you an official letter regarding the admission decision.
